Abstract
This study was performed to find the required characteristics of a standard dental X-ray source with which the right digital image for diagnosis can be acquired through the CCD or CMOS-based direct radiation detector (digital X-ray sensor).

For the experiment, two types of X-ray source were used, namely half-wave rectified and inverter circuit for making high voltage. And the characteristics of each X-ray source were described for analyzing the current type that is directly interrelated with X-ray beam types. For the measurement of radiation, silicon-based dosimeter was used.

From this experiment, radiation dose was very different to the types of X-ray source. Half-wave rectified X-ray generator radiated the flux 8 and 16 times more than the inverted type in every array of condition of kVp from 50 to 70 and mAs from 0.1 to 2. X-ray sensor based on CCD and CMOS can not show any images to define the pair line of mammorgraphy phantom but when it used with the inverter type it can show the right image to differentiate the pair line in mammorgraphy phantom.
For the dry skull, the right images to define the dental caries and periodontal defect lesion around teeth and periapical area can be provided at the array condition of mAs from 0.05 to 0.25 at the kVp from 60 to 70 at all dentition when it was used with inverted type of X-ray source.

Therefore, the right images can be acquired through digital X-ray sensor at the condition of combined system of inverter X-ray source.
